Doorways Interfaith AIDS Housing today announced that Lynne M. Cooper, D.Min, one of its founders and its long-time President, will step down effective September 30, 2012.? She will continue to be available to the board of directors and management to help Doorways carry out its mission.? Dr. Cooper, a nationally recognized advocate for housing and supportive services for men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS, has served as Doorways? chief executive officer since 1989.

The Doorways Board of Directors is soliciting applications and hopes to fill the position this year.? Joe Noelker will continue as executive vice president and, effective October 1, will be appointed acting president.?

In a statement posted on the Doorways website, Dr. Cooper said, ?Being a part of Doorways, really BEING Doorways, as so many of you say to me, has been the most satisfying, challenging and growth full professional experience of my life. For almost twenty five years, the clients, staff, partners and board members who have so graciously welcomed me into their presence have become my teachers, trusted colleagues, mentors and friends. I am grateful for every minute of it and equally enthusiastic about Doorways' future! I really look forward to helping when asked and staying out of the way when appropriate! Lynne Cooper?s interest in HIV/AIDS began during her pastoral care residency at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans in 1985.? In 1988, she and others founded DOORWAYS, an Interfaith AIDS Residence Program to address the housing needs of people living with HIV/AIDS.? She became Executive Director in 1989 and President 1996.? DOORWAYS provides housing and care for 1000 households living with HIV/AIDS each year, has an annual operating budget of $6 million, and has brought over $100 million of competitive housing dollars to Missouri.

China main money rate up, market awaits next bank reserve cut

SHANGHAI (Reuters) - China's main short-term lending rate rose 14 basis points on Friday as banks hoarded money to prepare for extra bank reserve payments due early next month while the market awaited a cut in bank reserve requirements.

The benchmark seven-day weighted-average bond repurchase rate rose to 4.1240 percent at midday from Thursday's close of 3.9832 percent.

The shortest overnight repo rate rose to 3.6038 percent from 3.5666 percent but tenors above 14-days fell on expectations that liquidity conditions may improve after July 5, traders said.

The market has recently suffered a liquidity crunch. It stemmed from the need by banks for more money to meet half-year regulatory requirements, such as loan-to-deposit ratios, and a large initial public offering that froze 31 billion yuan ($4.9 billion) from the market this week.

Also, Chinese banks are required to adjust their deposit reserves on the 5th, 15th and 25th of each month.

Traders said deposits recently have been rising sharply as banks are succeeding in attracting more savers to enhance their half-year financial statements. Higher deposits will increase the amount that banks must set aside as reserve payments on July 5, they said.

"Even major banks appear to have limited money to lend, keeping short-term funding costs at high levels," said a dealer at a Chinese commercial bank in Shanghai.

"But the central bank is acting to help the market, and the market expects it to cut bank reserve requirements in July," the dealer added.

WINDOW OPEN

The People's Bank of China (PBOC) injected a net 198 billion yuan into the market via regular open market operations this week, up sharply from a net injection of 55 billion yuan last week.

Facing a worse-than-expected economic slowdown, the PBOC has cut reserve requirement ratios (RRR) twice this year, in February and May, and it reduced benchmark interest rates once, in June.

The moves were made partly because the slowdown has hit capital inflows into China and reduced money supply in the system.

The PBOC said earlier this month that it and Chinese financial institutions bought a net 23.4 billion yuan worth of foreign exchange in May, following a net sale of 60.6 billion yuan in April.

Average monthly net forex purchases in the first five months of 2012 was just 50.7 billion yuan, down sharply from 2011's average of 231.6 billion yuan a month and the 2010's average of 272.4 billion yuan.

For about a decade, the PBOC's injection of base money into the system via its purchase of foreign currencies flowing into the country to keep the yuan stable was the single main source of base money supply in China's financial system.

The PBOC may await June's economic data, to be announced in mid-July, to decide the timing of another RRR cut, traders said.

"Judging from the acute liquidity shortfall in the market, an RRR cut in July appears to be inevitable, and the PBOC may just want to choose a right time," said a dealer at an Asian bank.

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- With the 2011-12 spring sports season in the books, the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) has turned its gaze towards the 2012 fall season. Monday, the first preseason honors of the new campaign were released, as eight MIAC football players were named Preseason All-Americans by Beyond Sports Network (BSN).

BSN released its 2012 Preseason All-America teams for FCS, Division II, Division III and the NAIA. The Division III squad featured First, Second and Third teams and an Honorable Mention list. All eight MIAC selections were named to one of the top three squads, with two on the First, two on the second and four on the third team.

St. Thomas offensive lineman Curtis James and Saint John's defensive back Bobby Fischer were the MIAC's two First Team selections. James is a senior for the defending-MIAC-champion Tommies, and Fischer returns as the Johnnies' senior leader on defense in 2012.

RIDGEWOOD, N.J. (AP) ? The parents of Tyler Clementi were ready to accept a plea deal calling for no jail time for their son's Rutgers University roommate, who used a webcam to see their son and another man kissing.

But what they learned at trial made them more convinced that the roommate, Dharun Ravi, deserved to be sent to prison.

Tyler's mother, Jane Clementi, said it was only during the trial in March that she learned her son had viewed Ravi's Twitter posts about the webcam dozens of times in the hours before Tyler killed himself in September 2010.

"I did not realize he was in on the joke," Jane Clementi said Friday in an interview with The Associated Press and two other news outlets.

She said that detail made her understand her son's pain more.

The case drew worldwide attention after Clementi's suicide in September 2010, just days after the spying, and made her late son into a symbol of the perils of mistreating young gays.

Jane Clementi, her husband Joe and a son, James, have resumed talking to the media this week to promote the foundation they formed in Tyler's honor. Except for some brief written statements through their lawyer, they had not talked with the media since before Ravi's trial.

He was convicted in March of all 15 criminal counts he faced, including bias intimidation and invasion of privacy.

He was released from jail June 19 after serving 20 days of a 30- day sentence imposed by a judge who could have given him up to 10 years in prison.

Ravi was not charged with causing Tyler Clementi's death, but Clementi's family believes his behavior was a factor, especially in light of the tweets.

One of them read, in part: "I saw him making out with a dude. Yay."

Clementi's parents say he told them he was gay just before leaving for college, three weeks before his death, and that he was ready to be out on campus.

They believe that learning about the webcam humiliated him and made him realize that being out as gay on campus would not be so easy.

His parents say that jumping off the George Washington Bridge was ultimately their son's own decision ? and a bad one.

In May, Ravi issued a statement in which he said he was sorry and was ready to serve his sentence. The Clementi's said they didn't see it as an apology, in part because it was not made directly to them. Still, Joe Clementi said, he expects to forgive Ravi, eventually.

The family is trying to figure out how to use the Tyler Clementi Foundation to teach responsible use of social media and increase acceptance of gays in schools, communities and even churches.

Jane Clementi said that until several years ago, when she realized her son James, now 26, was gay, she believed that homosexuality was a sin.

And she says that while she told Tyler she loved him after he came out to her, she believes she should have embraced that about him, not just tried to accept it.

"That needs to come off the sin list," Joe Clementi said.

Two teenage girls in a relationship were found with gunshot wounds to the head in a south Texas park, with one of them dying from her injuries, media reports say. Police were searching for their assailants.

Mollie Judith Olgin, 19, and Mary Christine Chapa, 18, were found in knee-deep grass in a nature area in Portland by a couple Saturday, said Portland Police Chief Randy Wright, who confirmed to msnbc.com details first reported by the Corpus Christi Caller Times.

Olgin, originally from Ingleside but recently living in Corpus Christi, died; Chapa, of Sinton, was rushed to a hospital where she had surgery and was in serious but stable condition on Sunday, local NBC affiliate kristv.com reported. Wright said Chapa was still in the hospital on Monday.

Friends told kristv.com that the girls had been together five months. Wright said he didn?t have any information about their relationship, noting that ?we understood from their friends that they were (in a romantic relationship). I know from ? Mollie?s parents that they were very close.?

When asked if police had been able to determine if the girls' sexuality played any role in the shootings, Wright told msnbc.com: ?That?s always something that we?re looking for, but as of this point, we have not been able to establish that that had anything to do with the attack.?

He said they had been in communication with Chapa. He noted all indications were that ?third parties? were involved in the assault.

?If we had a name, you know, we?d be having a different conversation right now. But we have not been able to gather enough information to identify a suspect yet,? he said. ?It appears as if ? this was not just a random attack but that?s something that we really have to develop over time.?

Wright said police had recovered a bullet casing from a large-caliber gun at the scene, but they haven?t found the weapon. A resident living nearby reported hearing two loud bangs Friday before midnight but believed?they were?from firecrackers, the newspaper said.

The park, more of nature area with some parts overgrown and no lights, was generally frequented by visitors during the day. It is located along a bluff overlooking a bay, Wright said, with some homes situated nearby.

Sandusky lawyers may use TV tape error in appeal

(Reuters) - Lawyers for Jerry Sandusky sought a mistrial before his conviction for child sex abuse on the grounds that prosecutors showed jurors an inaccurate version of a bombshell NBC News interview with the former football coach, and the mistake may now form part of the basis for an appeal.

In response to a subpoena, NBC News turned over three versions of Bob Costas' NBC News interview with Sandusky, which aired last November on different NBC shows.

One of those versions, which was broadcast on the 'Today' show, contained an erroneous repetition of a key question and answer - about whether Sandusky was sexually attracted to young boys, Nils Frederiksen, a spokesman for the Pennsylvania attorney general said on Sunday.

The repetition, Sandusky's lawyers contend, made it appear to jurors that he was stonewalling.

"It wasn't noticed by (NBC News), it wasn't noticed by us, but it became obvious when it played in court," Frederiksen told Reuters.

NBC News spokeswoman Amy Lynn confirmed this account on Sunday.

SANDUSKY FACES 400-YEAR SENTENCE

On Friday, a jury in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, convicted Sandusky, a former Penn State assistant football coach, of 45 counts of child sex abuse and child endangerment. Sandusky, 68, is expected to be sentenced to more than 400 years in prison.

Sandusky attorney Joe Amendola said NBC's error would form part of the basis for an appeal. "Oh my goodness, yes," he said, when asked about whether it could be used in an appeal.

The mistrial request was denied by Judge John Cleland, who sought to remedy the situation by providing the jury with an accurate transcript of the exchange, another Sandusky attorney Karl Rominger said.

It's the second time in a matter of months that an error in a ?Today' show broadcast has put the morning program at the center of a national criminal trial. In April, 'Today' aired a misleadingly edited phone call between the police and the man who shot Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.

The Sandusky case has rocked the world of U.S. elite college sports and led to the firing of the university's president and Joe Paterno, a College Football Hall of Fame member who won more games as head coach than any other Division I coach. Paterno died of lung cancer in January, five months to the day before the verdict against his long-time assistant was handed down.

Amendola said another basis for a future appeal could be a request he and Rominger made to resign from the case at the start of jury selection because the lawyers didn't feel they were given enough time between their client's arrest in November and the June trial date. He said the request was denied by Judge Cleland.

UNDERAGE BOYS

In the Sandusky interview with NBC, Costas asks, "Are you sexually attracted to young boys, to underage boys?" according to an NBC News transcript.

Sandusky responded, "Am I sexually attracted to underage boys?"

But in the "Today" version, which was played for jurors and is still available on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sb49dXT_44M), the exchange was repeated.

The interview was originally aired correctly on NBC News' new magazine show, ?Rock Center' on November 14. The erroneous version that repeated the exchange aired the following morning on ?Today.'

In a statement, NBC's Lynn said: "Under subpoena, NBC News turned over three versions of the Costas interview to prosecutors, including the 'Today' version with the error in it. Prosecutors used the 'Today' version, not realizing it included a technical glitch, and played it for the jury.

"After court that day, NBC News executives had a series of discussion with the prosecutors, and after some internal investigation were able to determine that the glitch originated on 'Today.' NBC News executives explained the situation to the court, and Judge Cleland sought to remedy the situation by giving the jury instructions to regard only a transcript of the full interview that was subsequently provided to them, not any audio that was played for them by prosecutors."

"EMBARRASSING"

A source on the prosecution team acknowledged that prosecutors played the ?Today' version, which contained the error, without reviewing it carefully beforehand.

"Was it embarrassing?" the source asked. "It was certainly embarrassing. Was it a mistake? It was clearly a mistake." The source also said NBC News executives expressed regret to the court.

"Did they say, ?I'm sorry?' I can't recall those exact words,'' the source said. "Were they apologetic? Yes."

In the incident in April, ?Today' aired a misleadingly edited tape of a call to police from George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who shot Trayvon Martin. That edit made it appear that Zimmerman told police that Martin was black without being prompted. In fact, Zimmerman did so only when responding to a question posed by a dispatcher.

Several ?Today' staffers were disciplined over that incident, NBC News president Steve Capus said at the time. Network sources told Reuters a Miami-based ?Today' producer was fired.

NBC is majority-owned by Comcast Corp.

HBT: Red Sox deal Youkilis to White Sox

The White Sox announced after Sunday?s game that they?ve acquired Kevin Youkilis from Boston in exchange for?right-hander Zach Stewart and utilityman Brent Lillibridge.

The Red Sox are also sending $5.5 million in cash to help cover Youkilis? salary, according to FOXSports.com?s Ken Rosenthal.

?I just got off the phone with him, he?s very excited to join our club and he?s got a little edge to him that I like,? White Sox GM Kenny Williams said. ?I can?t tell you exactly what he said, but he wants to come in and prove some people wrong.?

Youkilis will take over at the hot corner for the White Sox. Brent Morel, who opened the season with the job, is out with a back injury and there is no timetable for his return. He was struggling mightily anyway, and he?ll likely be optioned to Triple-A once healthy.

The Red Sox are now committed to Will Middlebrooks at third, and they?ll see if Stewart and Lillibridge can help in lesser roles. Stewart, 25, had a 6.00 ERA in one start and 17 relief appearances for the White Sox this season. He?s to join the rotation at Triple-A Pawtucket for now. Extremely homer-prone up to this point of his major league career ? he?s allowed 21 in 97 1/3 innings ? he figures to benefit from getting out of U.S. Cellular Park. While Fenway is still a hitter?s park, it?s not a home run park.

Lillibridge was outstanding in his bit role last year, hitting .258/.340/.505 with 13 homers in 186 at-bats. This year, he?s returned to previous form, with a .175 average, no homers and 26 strikeouts in 63 at-bats. On the plus side, he?s a good defensive outfielder, and he?s capable of playing anywhere in the infield, though he?s well below average at second base and short.

Youkilis, who was drafted by Boston back in 2001, went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple Sunday in his final game for the Red Sox. He?s hitting .233/.317/.377 in 146 at-bats this season.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) ? Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling said Friday that the collapse of his 38 Studios video game company has probably cost him his entire baseball fortune, and he placed part of the blame on Rhode Island officials, including Gov. Lincoln Chafee.

Schilling said during a 90-minute interview on WEEI-FM in Boston that he put more than $50 million of his own money in the company and that he's had to tell his family that "the money I saved during baseball was probably all gone."

Schilling said he hopes to return to work soon as an analyst for ESPN. He took a leave of absence from the network after 38 Studios filed for bankruptcy protection on June 7. The firm was lured to Providence from Massachusetts in 2010 after Rhode Island offered a $75 million loan guarantee. The state is working to determine how much it's on the hook for after the company's collapse.

While he conceded that he "absolutely" was part of the reason the company failed, he said public comments made by Chafee last month questioning the firm's solvency were harmful as the firm tried ? but failed ? to raise private capital to stay afloat.

"I think he had an agenda," Schilling said about Chafee.

Chafee vocally opposed the state's loan guarantee to 38 Studios when he was running for governor in 2010. But after it was a done deal, he was the company's "biggest cheerleader," Chafee spokeswoman Christine Hunsinger said Friday.

"The success of 38 Studios would have meant success for Rhode Island through the contribution a company makes to the overall economy," she said in a statement. "There is no victory in the failure of 38 Studios. People have lost their jobs and Rhode Island taxpayers are now potentially responsible for the repayment of tens of millions of dollars."

Schilling also accused Chafee of failing to work with an investor who was willing to put $15 million to $20 million into the company to help it succeed. He said the investor walked away because of Chafee's inaction.

38 Studios laid off its entire workforce ? nearly 300 employees in Providence and more in Maryland ? last month. That move came after it was more than two weeks late on a $1.1 million payment to the state; officials have said that was the first indication the company was in financial trouble.

The firm had sought millions of dollars in tax credits from Rhode Island as it struggled to stay afloat, but Schilling said Friday that he wasn't looking for a bailout.

State and federal authorities, meanwhile, are investigating 38 Studios' finances. Citizens Bank also has sued Schilling to recover $2.4 million in loans it made to 38 Studios.

Schilling, who also pitched for Baltimore, Houston, Philadelphia and Arizona, won the World Series three times and is perhaps best remembered for pitching Game 6 of the 2004 American League Championship Series with an injured ankle that stained his sock with blood.

Schilling said he hasn't done anything wrong. He said he never took any money from the company, not even a salary. He said the company was close to succeeding but just couldn't raise enough private capital. He also said he never intended to hurt the firm's workers.

"It's been kind of a surreal 60 days or 65 days," Schilling said. "It's crushing and devastating to see it fail the way it did."

Schilling was asked how the company's collapse has affected him personally.

"I don't know. ... It's not over yet," he said. "I would imagine the next foreseeable time in our lives is going to be consumed by this. It's a life-changing thing."

But he added, "I'm not asking for sympathy. It was my choice."

Analysis: Goldman judge cuts Wells notice disclosure burden

(Reuters) - A federal judge's decision that otherwise went against Goldman Sachs Group Inc has made it easier for companies to defeat shareholder claims that litigation threatened by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission should be disclosed.

U.S. District Judge Paul Crotty in Manhattan said Goldman could not be sued under federal law for securities fraud for failing to disclose it had received a Wells notice from the SEC, though news of a notice often causes a negative market reaction.

The case related to Goldman's alleged failure to disclose conflicts of interest in its sale of risky collateralized debt obligations such as Abacus 2007 AC-1, which led to a $550 million settlement between the bank and the SEC.

A Wells notice shows that SEC staff intend to recommend civil charges and lets a recipient mount a defense. But it is SEC commissioners themselves who decide whether to bring a case.

"At best, a Wells notice indicates not litigation, but only the desire of the enforcement staff to move forward," Crotty wrote. "When the regulatory investigation matures to the point where litigation is apparent and substantially certain to occur, then ... disclosure is mandated."

Goldman got its Wells notice in July 2009, but that was not revealed until the SEC accused it of fraud the following April. Two employees, Fabrice Tourre and Jonathan Egol, also got Wells notices, and the SEC eventually charged Tourre with fraud.

Peter Henning, a law professor at Wayne State University, said Crotty's decision is the first to conclude that receipt of a Wells notice does not trigger an automatic disclosure obligation, including for companies that like Goldman may have earlier made general disclosures about regulatory probes.

"The tension is that investors want to know everything, and companies want to reveal nothing," Henning said. "Judge Crotty's decision pushes the trigger point for when disclosure is required to a later date. That's good for companies. From an investor transparency point of view, this is not helpful."

A 2009 study by Cornerstone Research found that 17 of 58 Wells notice disclosures from April 2002 to January 2007 triggered large stock price declines. It also found that these 58 announcements, when analyzed collectively, triggered statistically significant stock price declines.

MARKET MOVING, BUT NOT DISCLOSABLE

Goldman shares fell 12.8 percent on April 16, 2010 when the SEC announced its civil fraud lawsuit over Abacus, wiping out more than $12 billion of the Wall Street bank's market value.

By the end of June, after more details had emerged about Goldman's CDO, the shares had fallen nearly 29 percent.

Another U.S. regulator, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, in November 2010 fined Goldman $650,000 for failing to reveal the Wells notices that Tourre and Egol had received.

In his decision, Crotty did let the Goldman shareholders pursue claims that the bank failed to disclose it had bet against some CDO it was selling, and let billionaire hedge fund manager John Paulson bet against securities he chose for Abacus.

Still, the judge said that while companies have a duty to make "accurate and complete" disclosures, this did not mean they needed to disclose everything, but rather enough such that what was revealed "would not be so incomplete as to mislead."

He explained: "A corporation is not required to disclose a fact merely because a reasonable investor would very much like to know that fact."

Robert Daines, a professor and governance specialist at Stanford Law School, said the judge tied his holding close to the facts of the case, making the broader impact unclear.

"Because a Wells notice is issued before the SEC knows much about the case, the notice may or may not turn out to be important," he said, "and so the SEC has long taken the position that a Wells notice may or may not be material information."

Henning said Crotty's decision could prompt an SEC review of Regulation S-K, which sets out reporting requirements for public companies. But he also said greater disclosure obligations could backfire on the agency by forcing more disputes into the open.

"A Wells notice serves a purpose for the SEC, to prod companies to settle," he said. "But if it is something companies must disclose immediately, the SEC may become more reluctant to issue a notice, and that could reduce its flexibility."

SEC spokesman John Nester declined to comment.

The Tourre case remains unresolved. Egol was not charged.

The case is Richman v. Goldman Sachs Group Inc, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 10-03461.
