| There is no need to be embarrassed, this is very important stuff. Haemorrhoids can certainly cause quite a bit of blood loss, but I would expect it to hurt a little when you pass your stool, which you haven't mentioned. The other possibility is Ulcerative Colitis. A good friend of mine has this and it can be treated, although it is not curable.
Here is some information about it from the NHS.
NHS Ulcerative Colitis
Feeling tired and drained is a symptom of UC, so make sure to tell your Doctor how you feel and any other symptoms even if you don't think it seems related to what is happening when you go to the toilet.
Ideally, your Doctor should take blood to test for inflammation, arrange for a stool sample to be taken and for you to have a colonoscopy. This should be able to rule out things such as Ulcerative Colitis. Sometimes doctors are loathe to order these tests, and it took my friend several attempts before she was diagnosed, and she is quite a severe case so you may need to be persistent.
Having said all this, please try not to panic. UC is rare and haemorrhoids are a far more likely explanation. I hope your doctor can offer you some peace of mind.
Please let us know how you get on tomorrow, and feel free to PM me if there is something you want to say or ask but don't want to post publicly. I've had so many conversations with my friend about her bottom that it's all pretty normal for me. |

| My uncle got an ulcer in his stomach that caused him to bleed profusely out of both ends. He ended up having to go to the hospital and get a blood transfusion. Whatever it is, I think you should definitely take it seriously and go to a doctor about it.
If you suspect you might have an ulcer, then read any pain medication carefully before taking it. I think part of the reason my uncle ended up passing out from blood loss was because he was taking some over the counter pain pills that can aggravate or even cause ulcers. And then, drinking alcohol thins the blood, which is probably not a good idea if you're worried you're bleeding from somewhere.
Plus, I'm not sure what the GP (edit-- I'm guessing general practitioner) is or why they gave you enemas. But you can also consume lots of fiber in other ways, like with green smoothies or psyllium husks and water. |

| It is probably hemeroids and/or an anal fissure (tear). I have both, and when they do a lot of bleeding it does leave me feeling drained. I also have a kink in my bowel which slows down the progress of food through my system, giving me chronic semi constipation. Naturally, that causes straining, which caused the hemeroids and the fissure. I've had exams that verified the hemeroids and the fissure, and I had a colonoscopy several years ago that verified that I have a kink in my bowel. I had suspected so for decades.
Because there are other, more serious conditions that could be causing your problems, you should have a rectal exam, and a colonoscopy. If you are really feeling drained you should definitely be taking vitamins with iron in them. If you are already taking one, it would be a good idea to take them twice a day for a few days to see if that will help. Also, increase the fiber in your diet to ease defecation, and consume less greasy foods. Too much greasy food can cause stomach and other gastric problems.
So make an appointment to get that colonoscopy, okay? I had a female bleeding problem for over a year a few years ago. When I finally got it taken care of they found cancer. Although I waited longer than I should have ($ trouble), fortunately, the cancer had not spread much, so they were able to remove all of it by doing a complete hysterectomy. I would hate for you to get really sick by not following up on this. Even if it's just hemeroids or a fissure, loss of blood can cause problems, too, so get this checked out. |
