Adult nightclub not mentioned at Rome Common Council

ROME? Common Council held its regular session meeting Wednesday night at Rome City Hall, however neither the public, nor the council members addressed the recent pending purchase offer on a new adult night club.

The club -- if approved -- would be located on the corner of State Route 365 and Greenway New London Road, in Rome. Oneida resident Kyle Endemann has submitted a zoning permit with the city to establish 4,500 square feet a bar and restaurant with parking for up to 62 vehicles, which is currently a vacant lot.

That location falls under Common Councilor Kimberly Rodgers? district, who represents the 3rd Ward.

After the meeting Rodgers explained the next set of requirements that Endemann must complete in order to have his application approved under the F-1 Agricultural Zone.

?An agriculture zone is supposed to protect open spaces for agriculture use,? she said. ?That?s why you need a use variance.?

Rodgers said obtaining a use variance can be difficult, because that area could be seen as impeding? farms and agriculture land.

But the business is allowed under the city?s zoning code because it would be at least 500 feet away from homes, schools, churches and? parks.

Endemann is scheduled to present his plan to Rome?s Zoning Board of Appeals on March 6 at 6:30 p.m. However, a public meeting of people who want to oppose the adult nightclub is being held on Wednesday Feb. 20 at thee Verona Fire Hall, 5555 Volunteer Ave. at 6:30 p.m.
