The recent rash of NCAA-allowed transfers is only the part of the story regarding the Penn State football program's personnel makeover heading into camp.
The Lions have also lost several players from last year's team for an assortment of reasons. Many of them would have been key contributors.
Let's not forget about these guys ...
CB Curtis Drake: The former WR worked with the first-team defense in the spring but left team for undisclosed reasons.
WR Devon Smith: The team's fastest player, and one of the most experience returning receivers, left the team for personal reasons after spring practice.
CB Derrick Thomas: Skills were legit but off-field issues hounded him; left for personal reasons after the spring.
DL Shawn Oakman: Massive player with serious potential who was removed from the team for an off-field issue prior to spring practice.
DL Evan Hailes: Career ended this off-season due to complications related to blood clots.
